To My Teachers

I think I was in the second or third grade. My class was learning a new poem (The Snare). Suddenly, the Head Mistress appeared standing by the door. She observed the class as we continued with the recitals. She then called my name and asked me to recite the whole poem. I was more than jolted. The look on her face said “I believe you can do it.” I was encouraged. I did it. That simple instance has inspired confidence in me over and over again throughout my life.

She had presided over many lives in their formative years. Now I know what she was trying to instil in our unpredictable lives so many years ago.

I thank God for teachers.

I am deeply grateful to all my teachers.

CHILD SOLDIER

Wet jungle, licking shack
There I was born
Guns on the rack
My toys for fun

Rambo is my name
I ride in fame
Never fail, never to be blame
Duties I do with no complain

Is it my fault?
Do I have a choice?

I kill, I maim
This is me... how I was raised
I know no other
Why should any bother?

You judge me... I know
I live under, fate’s blow
Who’s right? Who’s wrong?
And who’s to decide?

Why judge me?
You did not save me
Are you human?
So am I

Gunpowder and rice
My baby food
Give me your childhood
I yearn for brotherhood

Let the table be turn
You with the gun
Running for dare life
In a pointless strife

Now, I above
You to judge
What be your plea?
Answer me! I say.
